Land of the Lost

Wow!  This is a dog of a movie.  I'm glad I just watched it from my Netflix queue rather than going out to a Blockbuster and renting it or even worse, going to the theater and seeing it.  And I had such high hopes for it based on the images I saw of the improved Sleestak.

What lets this movie down isn't so much the plot and not even Will Ferrel as it is the dumb adolescent humor of dick and crap jokes.  There are several moments where Chaka and Will cop a feel of Holly's boobs.  It really distracts from a plot that was trying to be serious.

Speaking of the humor, there are only two really funny moments in the movie.  One is the "Matt Lauer can suck it," line that we saw constantly in the promotions.  That line sets things up for a funny moment at the end of the movie.  Except it's not really worth waiting out the ninety or so minutes to get to the end.

The DVD special features are the most telling about this movie.  Only the director offers any commentary and the other two features are pathetic.  One is a commercial for a location seen in the movie and the other is called "A Day in the Life of a Big Star", only it's not about Will Ferrel, but rather the guy who plays Will whose name eludes me at the moment.  There is nothing, thankfully, connecting the movie with the old TV show in the way of recollections from the old cast.  They knew to stay clear of this dog.
