The Elmo situation
As someone who grew up watching the first years of Sesame Street, I think I know what troubles us old-timers about Elmo: Elmo is a kid. When we were growing up and watching there were kid muppets (Big Bird), but nearly all the rest of them were "grown up." They had jobs. Kermit was a weather man (frog). Grover was a waiter. Cookie Monster hosted Monsterpiece Theater. Bert and Ernie did something, but they didn't live with their parents. They were adults. Elmo is a kid. Zoe is a kid. This is part of the increasing juvenilization of our culture, and it's not necessary. The people watching the show are kids. They need to reach higher and aspire to something. Elmo panders to them.
When Elmo Grew Up
So, I'm watching TV at the dentist's and there's a commercial for Sesame Street Live - When Elmo Grew Up The dentist isn't looking so scary now

VH1: Elmo Behind the Music
Elmo grown up would make a great Robot Chicken clip. Him, fat and drunk, complaining about how Zoe took him for everything he had, and left him for Telly.
The Doctors
I think Orenthal would get upset as the TV show, The Doctors recently used the 40th anniversary to bring Zoe, Elmo, and several of the other Muppets from Sesame Street to discuss being safe and eating right. One segment they did was "Sometimes food and Anytime food."
I meant to tape it, but I missed it. I just saw the commercial.

The Prisoner and Doctor Who: Waters of Mars
My anticipatory enthusiasm for The Prisoner when I recorded "Couch Potato Salad" last week has dimmed considerably after watching the first two hours Sunday night.
I recorded my thoughts not only on the first two hours of The Prisoner, but also the latest Doctor Who special "Waters of Mars," on my blog:
