And best of all, Keith managed to not make it about himself as he did in the last interview. I have my copy of I Remember the Future on order and am looking forward to reading it. I was going to enter the contest, but I like to support artists rather than take advantage of their generosity.
So, John, was that you whacking off the bit about Wildstorm, or was that me showing some actual sense? I can't remember...good that it's gone though.
Funnily enough, the Wildstoem debacle does tie in to what Orenthal was saying about the fiduciary responsibility of publishers to their shareholders or owners, in that the decision to pretty much trash the entire Wildstorm universe (and they even did a trial run for this with a Captain Atom crossover that resulted in the Wildstorm universe being destroyed and rebuilt) and reboot all of the Wildstorm books as post-catastrophe titles (meaning the nth reboot of The Authority, which hadn't even completed the reboot being done by Grant Morrison.) The net result of this seems to have been sales leaping into the abyss. The idea was to somehow revitalize the WS universe; instead they pretty much killed it stone dead.
Marvel's doing pretty much the same thing with the Ultimate line, with, god help us, Jeph Loeb leading the charge. Magneto's gone utterly whacky-doodle and is now killing millions and Everything Will Change. Again. This includes the name of the line -- it'll be Ultimate Cmics now. I remember when the Marvel Ultimate line was intended to tell straightforward stories uncluttered by continuity. The one title that's more or less stuck to that is Ultimate Spider-Man -- which is itself taking it on the chin thanks to Ultimatum...the book's being canceled and restarted, apparently with a new Spider-person (which might well be Peter's female clone.)
Final Crisis...I do know what Morrison was trying to do there, I just don't think it worked overall. I was amused by the meta-commentary of having the monitors told to stop screwing around with the universe and trying to over-control them -- pretty much telling editors to abck off and let the stories work themselves out, possibly in new and exciting ways; this is offset a bit by the news that the Batman page at the end was an editorial request, on the principle that unless it was made utterly explicit, the big dumb ol' audience wouldn't get what happened.
Gah. I could go on for hours and hours about this stuff and where it goes wrong (I think there's a week's worth of writing in breaking down where Countdown went wrong...)
No worries about the edit -- if I'd taken a few more minutes to think about it, I would have cut the Wildstorm bit myself, as it was really just reiterating what I'd already stated, and all it did was make the damn thing longer. I'd already cut out about a minute and a half at that point.
The ending image of the episode (me and Loni Anderson?) makes me wonder if I should share the podcast link with my wife. Maybe I'll tell her to listen to just the interview. :-)
Which was quite frankly surprising because we had such a small group of hosts. I'm still looking forward to the episode that that is free of technical glitches -- the ones you guys hear, plus all the ones we have to fix or work around before we successfully record, plus the ones that John fixes before he posts the episode. And on a related note, John didn't sound that much quieter than Orenthal and me while we were talking. And while I was talking about episode 2 of Dollhouse, I *DID* mention the "3 months earlier" caption. My words were swallowed up into yet another audio black hole, but I did say them. Really.
On the other hand, any episode in which I'm identified as a very amusing person is by default a great episode :)
Thank goodness we record this over the Internet, otherwise Andrea's swelled head from all this praise would not be able to fit through the door of the studio. ;)

Knight Rider has taken a step in the right direction. I think the Kitt Cave could be done away with and replaced with a Semi-Trailer though :)
Movie Review was good and made me consider Gran Torino as a film to watch.

Definitely an accurate statement here. Too many "events" and like Hawk, I can understand WHY they do it, I just wish they did it BETTER.
Couch Potato Salad
The Pilot was a bit slow, but the second episode is better. There's already a hint of things to come in the ending of the second episode. I trust Joss, so I'm willing to give the guy a season.
*Smacks John for tha "blank slate" joke* Take a pill John :)
I CARE ABOUT KNIGHT RIDER, So who the hell are the other 7? *Avoids the glare from Andrea*
The Michael Burstein interview wasn't the best. I appreciate he won awards, but an idea of what stories he's best known for would have been a better intro, as I hadn't a clue at that point what he's actually written. Perhaps the awards discussion could have come a little later.
Guys, please try to remember with the interviews, you're going to have listeners that don't know who the person is at all, and just saying "he's an author" or "she's a writer" doesn't help too much. Perhaps in the interviews ask the question "Which book/story/DVD/comic should someone who's never read anything by you should get" The only complaint I have about Keith's interviews are, just sometimes, he forgets his audience and asks questions that don't help the listener too much, but instead, give him answers to the personal questions he has (does that make sense?) Perhaps, one idea for some of these interviews is to open the questions to us, as listeners, so we get to ask stuff too (via the interviewer) A forum post can be made in the month preceding an interview for any questions we want to ask the subject and the best 3 or 5 can get asked.
I do agree Andrea is one of the funniest members of the cast (Go Andrea) Nice catch on the competition details Andrea. *Beams entry to John via telepathetic methods* (Can I join the Andrea K. Lipinski Fan Club?)
Another good show, and as always, there are tiny improvements going on that I notice, but again, as always, there's a few things which I think may be worth considering for the next one.
Knight Rider has taken a step in the right direction. I think the Kitt Cave could be done away with and replaced with a Semi-Trailer though :)
Excuse me while I throw cold water on this.
Since they were doing an update, they tried that with the cargo plane.
Now while that they are no longer an ORGANIZATION, but an organization any additional vehicles or personnel for maintenance wouldn't fit in with the show's own internal logic (what little of it there has been...although they are finding their way with that as well).
So no semi.
If they do add transport, then they'd been manipulating the internal logic again which was one of my problems with the early episodes.
All that being said, it's a lot more fun, but I'm not sure they saved they show.
The reboot made it sound like it was going from SUPER SECRET GOVERMENT AGENCY back to the organisational lines of FLAG, especially with the deliberate scene of Sarah having all the funds transferred to her, setting her up to be the equivalent of Devon Miles, and the suggestion that they re-institute FLAG.

My iTunes download also stopped several times. I don't know if that's because of a Podomatic problem, or an iTunes problem, or something else (we're just so hilarious that we broke the internet problem?) But anyway, each time I got the error message I clicked on the button on the bottom right of the iTunes download screen -- I think it said refresh or retry or something -- and after three tries it went all the way through.
I'm at school now. They have firewalls up the whazoo to stop students from streaming media and I'm getting the show on my computer in the video club's room.

Andrea, you're most welcome. I love everyone on the Rift, but I have to admit I look forward the most to hearing what you have to say every episode.
