Ricardo Montalban - Ricky Martin
So this week's Wait! Wait! Don't Tell Me featured a question on Montalban's passing. The host of the show, Carl Kasell, revealed that when Montalban was an up and coming actor, Hollywood execs wanted him to change his name to Ricky Martin. Talk about living la vida loca! Kasell went on to say that there was no such thing as Corinthian leather.

Large Pectoral Muscles
So, according to Sci-Fi Wire, Ricardo Montalban's guns were real. In fact, his costume was designed to accentuate his incredible 61 year old physique!

Full Circle
How's this for full circle? Listening to the Nerdist podcast and their interview with writer Brad Meltzer who also confirms that Montalban's pecs were real because his friend has the Khan costume in his posession.

Mad Guns
Imagine the ratings on Fantasy Island if he'd been allowed to lose the white suit coat and tie once and a while and hit the beach.
And now you have me wondering about a battle-to-the-death between Roddy McDowall and Malcolm McDowell
Best episode to date
My favorite episode to date was the LARP one, but this one was even better. I like Jay Smith and think he balances things nicely with his commentary. I hope we get to hear more of him in the future.
And dare I say it without offending her, Andrea's voice is sexy.
Thanks! I hope to keep
Thanks! I hope to keep adding "My Guilty Pleasure" bits and I'm REALLY looking forward to doing a MST-related bit for the show with TV's Frank. Quickies are fun to do and timely, so if there's a call to do a show and I have something to say on it, I'll crash the Skype meeting. :)
John - ZING!
And yeah, I could listen to Andrea OR Judy read the phone book.
All Right...
Which one of Jay's kids are you? ;)

nicely done, guys!
Finally got to listen to this tonight. Bravo to all and sundry. Andrea, John, Jay, you all did fine work, and it was an excellent tribute to two of our finest actors.

Just had a listen
Wait, WHAT date? :) Did John get a TARDIS for his birthday? :D
Whilst I'm glad to have another CR episode, it is a sad reason for having one. :(
I've seen The Prisoner a few times, and each time, something else confuses me *shrug* Guess I'm easy to confuse. My friend has been to Portmeirion (which is where they filmed the series) so he's the Prisoner Fan, not me. Mind you, having a famous series shot in Wales is a good thing. Shame we had to wait 40+ years for another show to be shot there.
I've never seen Fantasy Island, and the only thing I remember Montalban for is Wrath of Khan and Spy Kids. *Hangs head* Mind you, I did check out his Cordoba ad and it's actually SOFT Corinthian leather, not rich :)
I'm also finding that Montalban didn't wear a chestpiece for Khan. Perhaps he waxed his chest? :) Roundtable discussions? PAH, We need at least a special hour long edition!
RIP to both of them and I really hope that we avoid having any more quickies for these kinds of reason for a LONG time.
Montalban's Wife
Jay mentioned McGoohan's 60 years marriage to his wife and it turns out Montalban and his wife were also married a long time - 63 years. His wife passed away at the end of 2007.

"Ah, that is a very funny routine you have written, gentlemen. Very funny, indeed. I am embarrassed to say I have a slight problem with it. You see, I have been married for close to forty years. My wife was a very famous actress and we have four children, and this is well known. For much of my life, I have attempted to counteract some of the more egregious stereotypes about Hispanics, including the image of the Latin Lover who sleeps with every woman who comes along..."
Simpsons episode
The episode was entitled "The Computer Wore Menace Shoes". It was the sixth episode of the twelfth season. This is the next season to be released on DVD, but I don't have a release date that I can find. It's funny to note that the Wikipedia entry I linked above states the episode is non-canon as the plot never appears to be resolved with the entire family trapped on "The Island."

sweet jumping Jesus cluny frog on a friggin pogostick...
They actually classify episodes of The Simpsons as canonical? Seriously? Has hardcore fandom truly gotten that far up its own ass?

OMG, that is a funny episode
OMG, that is a funny episode and a great homage to The Prisoner.
Nice Use of Audio Clips
... especially with Patrick McGoohan's appearance on The Simpsons. Can you remind us which episode that was, so those of us with Simpsons DVDs can go watch that episode again? After we finish our Prisoner and Columbo marathons, I mean.
Oh, and for anyone who's wondering, the books I cited for my Patrick McGoohan info were Cult TV: A Viewer's Guide to the Shows America Can't Live Without and Fantastic Television. They're both out of print now, but if you can get copies through used booksellers, they both make for great reading.
