Episode Six - Word Balloons with a Comic Folk

A little longer than usual, but a lot of fun and a great way to blow out the old year and get ready for the new year, I say in a long, rambling sentence.

happy birthday ComicMix!

Performing a bit of thread necromancy here, as the site highlighted in this episode, ComicMix, turned three years old today. So happy birthday to Glenn and the rest of the gang!

Thank you for bringing

Thank you for bringing Comicmix to my attention. I am like John in that I stopped collecting comic books because of all the marketing. I want stories with my favorite characters doing heroic or not so heroic things and I want them when I can count on them and not when Kevin Smith gets off his lazy ass to write an issue and such. I don't care that there are five different covers. I'm not that kind of a fanboy.

I have enjoyed the content on Comicmixes website so far.

As for the rest of the episode, it was fine, except that Keith's mike problems really distracted. His volume would dip and I would adjust and then Orenthal would speak and I'd scramble to lower it. I read Keith's blog and know money's tight, but maybe we can all chip in and get him a new mike?

almost there...

I think I've figured out the mic problem I've been having and how to fix it. If you listen to the Who quickie, you should see an improvement. And I think it should be okay going forward.

If it isn't, then I'll buy a new mic.... :)

Thanks for the comments! (And for reading my blog...)

Cool!

I was just asking recently if anyone got anything from our podcasts.  I'm glad to see that ComicMix is getting attention.  They deserve it.  It's a good product.

There's no need to buy Keith a new mike.  I think the problem is more to do with the the software rather than the hardware.  Although Orenthal did come across a lot clearer in our latest episode and he bought a new mic.  We'll see.

Cool interview.

I like the site you shared and interviewed about and posted it to my Blog.  Also blasted it to my office with Creatives(art people and copywrites)  all over the place.

Hmm

Overall, another good show.  I enjoyed this one more than the last, but that's because I'm not really into LARP in anyway. It did run a little long to be honest.  Perhaps the Comicmix interview could have been a standalone podcast, with maybe another person pitching in questions like with the LARP episode.

The Good

Not a huge Adam Sandler fan myself, but I did enjoy Reign Over Me, Hawk completely nailing John in the opening with a comment that creased me up.  Andrea's review made me go looking for the series (Which is a "Good Thing").  Keith's review was good (apart from his, thankfully brief, attempt at a British accent).  I agree that David Morrissey was brilliant in this, and whilst I didn't quite love the Clockwork Mech as much as he did, I did like most of it.  I'm with Keith that the new Cybermen aren't the best in any way. Physically, they look good, but the characterisation of each one is too bland. I'm also with John about Russell T. Davies, whilst I'm thankful for him orchestrating the return, I think he needed to step back on the writing MUCH earlier.

Not much to say about Jay's section, apart from giving blood is a GOOD THING(tm) but not something I'm happy doing.  I have a problem with needles. Call me a coward.

The comicmix segment was really interesting.  I've never heard of it till now, so I think much of my time will be spent on this site  So thanks for this.

Lastly, The young Mr Hawk's segment.  Not seen B&B yet, and to be honest I've not really been a fan of the cartoon stuff.  And Diedrich Bader?  More famous as "The Searcher" I think.

The Bad

Again, Keith was virtually impossible to hear much of the time. It's either too faint, or crackly, or fading in and out too much.  I like Keith, he's a funny (pedantic) guy, but this is "really" distracting. Everyone else seems to come across VERY clearly, but Kradical? Dude?  New audio setup please??

The Result?

Great show.  I love the banter, I like almost EVERYTHING about it.  If Keith sorts out his microphone, it'll get even better. Oh, and if there's a "Guy Pierce reading the phonebook naked" marathon, can we have a "Lucy Lawless/Eliza Dushku/Any of my personal favourites Reading ANYTHING naked" marathon?

Nuff said.

I think I've finally sorted out the microphone issues. We'll know for sure next episode.......
