Detective Comics

I've read that a number of episodes of the old Adam West Batman series were based on the comic books.  So, it was pretty funny to see the Detective Comics issue that one of my favorite episodes, "Zelda the Great", was based on.  While Zelda is a male named Carnado in the comic book, his motivation for robbery, needing the money to pay someone to device deathtraps he can escape from, is the same.  The inescapable deathtrap that he needs $100,000 to purchase is exactly the same as in the episode, right down to the method of escape.  And the mobsters' crossfire from hidden places that nearly cut the Dynamic Duo down is featured.  The only difference is that Carnado is a real creep where there was something redeeming about Zelda.  She shouts a warning to Batman as he and Robin enter the crossfire.  In the comics, Batman spots Carnado's shifting eyes.

Very cool.

So, I'm reading some old issues of Batman and find another story that was taken for the television show.  It's actually my favorite of the television series in which the Joker creates his own utility belt to compete with Batman.  They mimic the story right down to the cork on the bottle of champagne.  In the comic, Batman swtiches the bottle out, but someone else manages to release the sleeping gas inside the trick one.  In the television episode, Batman gives Robin a pill to counteract the effects and then they play possum in order to be taken to Joker's hideout where they then spring into action.  I have to admit, I like the television version better.
