I gave up on Made in Jersey after one episode. I like the performances, especialy the lead, but I found that nothing really new is done. Its a procedural with the spin being the most unlikely person having the most knowledge. That trick gets old and insulting fast.
I've only seen the first episode of Last Resort and I liked what I saw. The problem is, as Keith and I discussed, how can this story move forward?
Of the comedies, I do see the humor in Ben & Kate. It's a week version of New Girl. The Mindy Project, as I predicted, is not funny. Animal Kingdom's only saving grace is the monkey, Rizzo. When he is on screen, I am happy. Otherwise, I could care less about this show. (Sad, I know.)
Returning shows: 2 Broke Girls and Hawaii 5-0 left me flat.

The five first-run shows I'm looking forward to are:
NCIS. Everything Keith says about it is right. Escapist television at its best.
Psych. Not sure when this is premiering, but this is a show I watch with my daughter and always look forward to. It's just completely silly fun. I think it's the one show I genuinely laugh out loud at the most.
CSI. I just started watching this last year. And I will admit, the reason I started watching was for Elisabeth Shue. I can't compare it to its heyday because I never watched it back then. It's not a great show, but, well, hey...Elisabeth Shue.
Dr Who. Yeah, after kind of not really watching much of the new stuff, my kids have gotten into it so I've decided to catch myself up. I haven't seen any of the new season yet because I want to get caught up first, but I'm taping the current shows and by the Christmas episode I should be in sync, thanks to Netflix. (I'm not one who can sit down and watch any show in some kind of marathon session, so I'm getting in about 2 or 3 episodes a week. Just competed the Tennent era.) I have to admit to being somewhat underwhelmed by the show, but when I just sit back and turn my brain off, I can enjoy it.
Flashpoint. I have *no* idea why I find this show so appealing. I mean, it's a good show, done well, but something about it really has me hooked like few other shows, and I can't figure out exactly what it is. I happened to catch an episode on the ION network, and I've now seen a few on Netflix. I just really enjoy it. The fifth and final season premieres on ION in October, and I'm really looking forward to this.
Five first-run shows (well, there is a sixth, more about that in a moment) is about all I can fit into my schedule (there are more than a few other shows I'm slowing working through via Netflix or DVD as well), so I'm not expecting to try out any of the new shows just yet. There are a few that sound vaguely interesting, so maybe if they hold up I'll find myself catching up with them down the road some time.
And yes, there is a sort-of sixth show that I make sure to catch; although it's not first-run, each episode is new to me. I speak, of course, of The Chronic Rift! :) I'm glad it's back!
An informative and enjoyable overview of the upcoming TV shows. I enjoyed your admissions of glandular TV watching (such as Zooey's show). I am with you, John, in that I'm not really into the procedural TV shows. I do respect Keith's interest in them however!
The biggest Fall TV show I'm looking forward to is one that wont' be on American TV -- the final series of the Danish TV show "The Killing"/"Forbrydelsen" will be starting. Though I don't know when it will be available with English subtitles. On one level it is a murder procedural but the difference is that they only do one murder per season and take their time exploring the story.
I heard of it because AMC made a remake of it under the name "The Killing," and when I heard it was based on a Danish series I looked on YouTube to see what the Danish version was like. I liked what I saw a lot and got the English subtitled DVDs from Amazon. (The Danish version of the show is very popular in England, so BBC has broadcast English subtitled versions and made DVDs. It's so popular there that Prince Charles's wife Camilla made an official royal visit the set to meet the star.) The American version of the show got canceled after they finished their adaptation of the first season of the three-season Danish show.
I do understand why they do remakes of foreign shows. But considering the hundreds of channels and the number of streaming services here in the US, you'd think that someone somewhere someway would be interested in showing some of the originals.

Coming to the party late...
I'm way behind in my podcasts, obviously...

Thanks for the TV rundown!

Out of curiosity...
...how did you discover this show, and how do you watch it?

Murder One?
That Danish show sounds like Murder One. I think that was the show that took one season to go through an entire murder case.
