hey all

Just wanted to let you guys know, we're coming out with about 8 new monster classes in the next few months.  First two are "Tourist" and "Robot".  The first one will be free, the rest will all be 99c.

Glad you're still enjoying the game =]

Teleport

Haven't played in awhile, but started a new game when I saw they did a new update.  There are random teleport (I know they call it something else) spots throughout the dungeon.  It's all right.  It helps in a tight spot when I'm being chased by some of the tougher creatures.

And for today's biggest accomplishment ...

... I finally managed to kill Satan!  YAY!!!!!!!!!

Alright, it was actually my ONLY accomplishment today, but it still makes me ridiculously happy.

Game Over?

So, you completed the game then? Cpnsidering the variety of game settings it's not like the game can't be played again, which is nice.

Killing Satan FTW!

Yes, if you manage to kill Satan, you've officially ended the game.  There's a very cute closing scene to bookend the opening where the council first gives you the assignment.  But yes, even after you kill Satan you can still keep playing the game over and over again, as whichever character you choose.

Wait a Second!

If Satan is dead, then how does God exist?

Good cannot exist without evil, the yin without the yang, Holmes without the Moriarity, the Doctor without the Master, day without night, batman without the Joker, Oscar without Felix, Orenthal without Scrappy Doo.

My mind is exploding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pope Shield?

All right, I made it to the second Boss Stage.  That is a much trickier stage.  I take it that by killing the acolytes (?) in the corners, I weaken the shield and have a better chance of getting the Pope.

That would be correct!

And then once you manage to kill him, you'll make it to one of my favorite levels, Hell 1.  If you can collect some dodge balls after the bullies throw them at you, try throwing them at other characters.  A few times I've been lucky enough to find a locker after I got a couple of dodge balls, stored them, and then got to take them out and throw them at my enemies in a future game.

THINK FAST!

:)

Got It!

I got past the genie!  I fought the flying babies!  (Frankly, they don't bother me so much as the ghosts do.)  I made it all the way to the eighth level before getting cornered by a group of archer skeletons.  I love it!  Great job, guys!

100 Rogues on You Tube

I found a couple of video clips of the 100 Rogues game. Take a look so you get more of a visual idea of what Andrea and I were talking about with Keith and Wes.

Including one of my personal favorites!

The skybabies show up at 1:46 on that clip.  Did I mention that this game is not unlike a fever dream?  Of course, the unseeables are pretty nasty, too.  And you can't ... uh ... actually SEE what they look like ...

oh, wow

the animation and music really take the creativity up several notches from the "Roguelike" games that inspired it (which have very primitive graphics and no music)

Pinkhamster's picture

sounds like a cool game

Unfortunately, I can't play videogames because I have an addictive personality, and I don't have an iPhone or iPad, so I'm completely out of the demographic.  But it did sound like a very creative project, and I used to play roguelikes before I swore them off, so congrats to these guys and thanks for sharing their efforts, Rifters.

New balancing

I can't wait to see what you guys think of 2.0, it's so exciting!

Big and little surprises of version 2.0

Huh.  When I attack someone with my wooden sword it now sounds different.  Kind of like I'm attacking someone with a wiffle bat.  Neat!

New tweaks to the music and new hints.  Yay!

In some ways I feel like I'm getting more or less stuff than before.  Sometimes I feel like I'm getting more gold and less STUFF, but then again this could be completely random.

In the "bug or feature?" department (I thought it was a bug at first, but then realized that it was a feature), the monsters fight each other more often now, and I can hear them fighting even when I can't see them.  So I can enter a room, throw a few spells around, and then while I'm bogged down in hand-to-hand combat with the monsters closest to me I can HEAR several other monsters fighting each other just outside of my line of vision.  Cool!

The unseeables now turn visible after they're dead.  NOT what I expected!

In some ways my spells seem more powerful and I can take out some monsters more easily than I did before.  But then the redesign of the physical spaces in the game means that it's now much easier for me to be surrounded on all sides.  More than once since the 2.0 upgrade, I've found myself surrounded by bandits and rats on the very first level of the game, who have then proceeded to kill me.  Oh, the indignity!

On the other hand, when I've survived the first few levels, I've managed to get further than I did before the upgrade.  I have now managed to defeat the first two bosses, and I have descended into several levels of hell.  And I, for one, am not at all surprised to find that bullies with dodge balls and *gulp* CLOWNS live there.

I still haven't managed to reach Satan yet.  Those bullies, clowns, gummy rats, and sacks of flour keep defeating me.  Grrrrr ...

Latest 100 Rogues Update

Now you can listen to other stuff on your iPod while you play!  So I can catch up on my podcasts while I kill things!

Woo-Hoo!  Hooray for multitasking!

Woo-Hoo!!! 2.0!!!

The new version of 100 Rogues was released today!!!

*dances*

ETA: Check out the 100 Rogues blog for lots of details about what to expect in the new version.  I can't wait to meet the zombie, the necromancer, and ... the flour sack???

Floating Cat Head

Wow!  I finally encountered it.  Damn, it's annoying and useful at the same time.  If you learn how to position yourself well enough, it makes a great barrier, but if you don't, you can find yourself trapped between it and two bandits while a robot launches a rocket at you and you forget to take a healing potion thus ending your career.

Cool!

interesting

I once heard a strange man in the Greyhound station mumbling the same thing about floating cat heads trapping him in the path of robots launching rockets...  I moved two chairs down!

New High Score

I just got an all-time high of 43440.  I played a human crusader, and I was killed by a ghost in Dungeon level 3 after 1912 turns.  The ghosts are going to make you mental, John.  They cast the teleswap spell like gypsies AND they can soften your armor! Oh, and they also groan menacingly.  Of course, you can only get to them AFTER you defeat the genie ...

Urgh.  Brain shutting down.  Time for a nap now.
