Hoarders

I know that I mentioned this show a while back when I reviewed E.L. Doctorow's Homer & Langley.  But today I have it especially on the brain since A&E was running a Labor Day marathon of this show and we've been watching it off and on for the last several hours. Based on my experience, I honestly don't recommend watching several episodes of Hoarders in a row.  Watching an episode once in a while can be educational, while at the same time stirring up feelings of both anger and empathy.  But watching a marathon of this show is like driving down the highway and passing car wreck after car wreck, each one more grisly than the last.  I am emotionally EXHAUSTED from watching this show.  I am sad and sullen and depressed, especially at seeing how innocent victims like children and animals are affected by hoarding.  I am overwhelmed by seeing this much dysfunction in one day.

I think when this is over, I'm going to fire up the Roku box and watch some episodes of Rocky and Bullwinkle to cheer myself up.  Argh.
