For our 100th episode, we are presenting a six day event. Each day, one member of the Rift crew will present the audio from our public access show of the 90's. In the final episode of this special presentation, Dan presents a two-part panel discussion on Japanese anime. We discovered after doing the show for two years that some topics didn't get the time they deserved. For the third season, we did a series of part two's, following up on topics we discussed in the first two years. Japanese anime was one such topic. Keep an ear out for an interview with animator Bill Plympton in the second half of this episode. Please take a moment to comment on the episodes in our forums or by calling 888-866-9010. You can watch episodes of the public access show by subscribing to the feed on iTunes or by visiting tcrclassic.mevio.com.
On Friday, Orenthal presented a panel discussion that he was a part of on the works of Peter David. In a rare twist, the author himself was among the panelists.
Andrea presented her interview with a cinema legend. The Rift had been to Philcon in 1992 and Andrea nearly fainted when she was presented with the opportunity to interview special effects wizard Ray Harryhausen.
On Wednesday, Judy got her turn at bat with our first live episode. We went out live over the New York airwaves in January of 1991 with a Roundtable discussion on science fiction that is taught in the classroom. Author Bruce Coville, educator David Grate, and our own Paula Araya were the guests.
On Tuesday, we offered Keith's choice, a Roundtable discussion on Frankenstein. Keith pretty much produced this episode on his own. (I think I poured water for the guests.) He and Judy sat down for the eighth episode of our first season in 1990 with writer/editor Greg Cox, Shelley and His Circleeditor, Donald H. Reiman, and Mary Shelley biographer, the late Emily W. Sunstein.
On Monday, we had John's choice, a panel discussion on censorship that was recorded at the ICON 11 convention at the NY State University at Stonybrook. Author Nancy Kress, editor James Frenkel, and comics writer Jo Duffy joined Andrea and Keith on stage for this discussion that also features comments from the audience. This is the edited highlights of the hour long panel as it ran on The Chronic Rift back in 1992.
